SMedia Technology Corporation, the first IC design company in Taiwan with the most complete design capability of graphics, video, audio, and imaging related low-power multimedia IC, announced found in Oct. 2004.

The R&D, Sales and Marketing teams in SMedia mainly come from Multimedia Product Department of Silicon Integrated System (TSE:SiS). SMedia holds the most advanced technologies of graphic accelerator, imaging and video from SiS, together with unique power-saving design to develop Mobile Multimedia coProcessor for handheld devices. The current capital size of SMedia is US$ 10 million, and major shareholders are United Microelectronics Corp. (NYSE: UMC; TSE: UMC) and conglomerate of UMC. Currently, there are 90 employees in SMedia, around 70% of them are R&D profession. Mr. HY Lin, General Manager of SMedia, was prior Senior VP of Integrated Technology Express, Inc. (TSE: ITE).
